Seminary Hill Association Update August 2022

July 30th 2022 EDT

As we turn the calendar to August, we are surely in the dog days of a Washington DC summer now with the recent heat and humidity! Today has brought some relief, but next week promises to bring increased temperatures and humidity back.  Normally, civic matters would be taking a summer recess, but it seems there is now no real break from the need to stay on top of city issues.  I mentioned in my last email that Tuesday, August 2nd is the National Night Out event throughout Alexandria.  This is an event to ...Continue Reading

Seminary Hill Association Update July 2022

July 14th 2022 EDT

As I began to write this last night, I received the sad and shocking news that former Mayor Kerry Donley had a heart attack Wednesday and died. He was only 66 years old. He served as Mayor from 1996-2003, and Vice Mayor from 2009-2012. In addition to his career in public service as a Councilmember and Mayor, he was a banking executive. He contributed much to numerous volunteer causes and was currently serving as President of the Board of Senior Services of Alexandria. It is a loss not only for his family, but also for ...Continue Reading

I hope all of you had a good Memorial Day weekend.  I want to thank all of those who have served in our armed forces, which has allowed us to enjoy the freedoms we too often take for granted. We just recently received notice of a virtual meeting this Thursday night, June 2nd at 6:30 regarding the plans to build an affordable housing project on the site of the former Land Rover dealership at Duke and Telegraph. The meeting is being held by Robert ...Continue Reading

Seminary Hill Association April 6, 2022 Update

April 6th 2022 EDT

In a week where April showers appear to be the norm, we are fortunate to have thus far been spared the terrible weather that has done a great deal of damage to areas south of us. Spring finally appears to be taking a more permanent position now, and it is fun to see the daffodils and early flowering trees in bloom all over Seminary Hill. This is in sad contrast to the sight we see on the Karig Estates property where clear cutting has left the landscape shockingly barren. It seems incredible to me that none of the large ...Continue Reading
