City Council Vote on Seminary Road

To the Seminary Hill community, On Saturday, September 14th, City Council held its Public Hearing on the road configuration for Seminary Road. The hearing lasted about 8 hours with over 100 speakers on both sides of the issue. In the end, City Council voted 4-3 to reject the recommendation of the Traffic and Parking Board (TPB), which would have retained the existing 4 lanes on Seminary Road with the addition of 2 pedestrian-activated crosswalks. Seminary Hill September Board Meeting

I hope all of you had an enjoyable summer. Seminary Hill Association took our usual summer break from board meetings, but we will resume our normal schedule starting this Thursday, September 12th at 7:30 p.m. The agenda for this meeting is found at the bottom of this email. UPDATE ON SEMINARY ROAD

I hope all of you are enjoying a relaxing summer. I want to let you know that your Seminary Hill Association Board and Transportation Committee have been hard at work throughout the summer on the issue of maintaining 4 car travel lanes on Seminary Road. There are now 9 city civic associations that have joined together to advocate for the recommendation made by the Traffic and Parking Board to maintain 4 car travel lanes with the addition of 2 HAWK pedestrian crosswalks along the one mile stretch of road that is the sub ...Continue Reading

I hope all of you are managing to stay cool during this heat wave. While our Association does not meet during the summer months, we are busy keeping up to date with developments regarding the repaving of Seminary Road. As I reported to you earlier, the Traffic and Parking Board voted 3-2 in June to recommend to City Council that Seminary Road remain 4 car travel lanes with 2 new HAWK crosswalks added at locations along Seminary Road. UPDATE ON SEMINARY ROAD

On Monday, June 24th, at a standing room only meeting in City Council Chambers, the Alexandria Traffic and Parking Board voted 3-2 to recommend that Seminary Road remain a four-lane street, with the addition of two new HAWK pedestrian crosswalks. Board member Ann Tucker made the motion, and board chair William Schuyler, and vice chair Jim Lewis, voted for Ms.Tucker's motion. Seminary Road Survey Deadline!

As many of you are aware, on May 30th, the city's Transportation and Environmental Services staff presented its proposed re-design of Seminary Road. Seminary Hill Association had put forward a plan we termed Alternative 4, which maintained 4 lanes of car travel, but provided safety improvements including: reducing the width of those 4 lanes to slow speed, creating light-activated crosswalks for pedestrians, providing a 3' buffer on each side of the roadway, and calling for increased speed enforcement along Seminary Roa ...Continue Reading

Important Seminary Road Meeting on May 30th

Happy Memorial Day to all.  A special thanks to all who have served our country in our armed forces. I want to make sure that all are aware of the community meeting on Thursday, May 30th from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the St. Stephen's St. Agnes Upper School campus at 1000 St. Stephens Road. There will be an Open House from 7:00-7:30, followed by the city staff presentation of the alternative they have selected for Seminary Road and a Question and Answer period. Community Meeting for Seminary Road

The city has now set the date for the final community meeting regarding the proposed changes for Seminary Road.  It will be held on Thursday, May 30th from 7 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Upper School Campus of St. Stephen's St. Agnes School at 1000 St. Stephen's Road.  At this meeting, the city staff will present the alternative they have chosen to implement in conjunction with the repaving of Seminary Road, which is scheduled for September of this year. Seminary Hill May Meeting

Our next board meeting of Seminary Hill Association will be Thursday, May 9th at 7:30 at the Parish Hall of Immanuel on the Hill Church. We will have a presentation from AlexRenew about the locations and plans for the combined sewer remediation work that is being finalized. This will be an extremely costly project that will cause some inconvenience in the locations where the tunnels will be constructed. So please come and learn about the RiverRenew project. Please note that tomorrow, Wednesday April 10th, is the last day you can register your opinion in the city's poll regarding changes to the Seminary Road roadway.  It is also the last day to take the SHA Doodle Poll, which contains our proposed 4th option for the road.
